Public Hearings – Homestead Exemptions (HB 581)/

The Camden County Board of Commissioners
intends to opt out of the statewide adjusted base ad valorem homestead exemption established
under House Bill 581 (HB 581). Residents are encouraged to participate in any of three upcoming
public hearings to learn more and share their input.
All three public hearings will take place at the

Government Services Complex, 200 E. 4th Street,
2nd Floor, in Woodbine,

on the following dates and times:

• Tuesday, February 18, 2025, 6:00 p.m. (as part of the Camden County Board of
Commissioners meeting)
In 2024, Georgia lawmakers passed HB 581, which was later signed into law by Governor Brian
Kemp. While the bill created a new statewide homestead exemption, Camden County
homeowners already benefit from the existing 2006 homestead freeze, which provides greater
tax savings than those available under HB 581.
Camden County’s decision to opt out of HB 581 does not impact current homestead exemptions,
including those for senior citizens.
